What do I do?

  • Project Strategy — In my experience, the most important part of a successful product or service is to understand the customers’ needs as well as the motivations and goals of the business. Balancing these requirements leads to a result that is efficient, effective, and profitable for all parties involved.
  • Project Management — Of course, establishing the right direction is only part of the equation: follow-through is critical. I have experience creating and implementing detailed Statements of Work, project plans, and budgets, and then working with a team of any size to see the project to its completion.
  • Interaction Design — I love to create interactive solutions for any type of computer-human experience. I have experience in a wide variety of user-centered design practices, including contextual evaluations, user testing, participatory design sessions, focus groups, and heuristic reviews. My history working with all different types of mediums — complex business software, financial transaction web sites, and online advertising, to name a few — means that I bring to the table an extensive knowledge of best practices and design patterns in many areas. Even more importantly, I am enthusiastic about learning about the next big thing and discovering innovative solutions to common challenges.
  • Communication — Part of working in a professional team is the ability to communicate succinctly to one’s audience. I have experience creating all types of written deliverables, from technical functional specifications for software developers to executive level marketing summaries. I appreciate the importance of refining words until they communicate the right message to the right individual.
  • Graphic Design — Although graphic design is not my core competency, I understand the importance of making things look good. Visuals are communication, and I strive for a professional, clean look in everything that I do.
  • Web Development — I started in the web industry as a front-end developer, and although I have moved away from a pure development profession, I still enjoy talking shop with programmers. My experience with HTML, Javascript, PHP, SQL, and .NET technologies makes it easy for me to communicate with the technically minded. On the weekends you will still find writing web applications for fun.

What are my defining qualities?

  • Communication — As a great graphic designer will tweak pixels until they are just so, I try to tweak my language to speak to the audience, the occasion, and the subject matter at hand. I am always looking for ways to improve this process and avidly seek feedback on how I’m doing. If there’s ever a conflict, I don’t avoid it: I try to get to the bottom of the situation as soon as possible so that work can continue efficiently.
  • Passion — I’m excited about technology. I love learning new things and taking them to the next level. No project is ever mundane — there is always something to learn and to improve.
  • Self-improvement — I’m passionate about getting better. I’m the first to admit my own shortcomings, and I’m anxious to improve them.
  • Analytical — I’m an extremely detail-orientated, analytical person. I constantly organize, shuffle, and visualize complex information in order to understand it and communicate it to others.
