My name is Marci Ikeler. I live in New York City where I work as an user experience designer. What that means: I talk to business stakeholders and users to find out what their needs and goals are, design how the web site/ application will look and function, and document all business logic and technical requirements. As you might guess, I'm a pretty big computer nerd (and nerd in general). My interests are: reading, music, philosophy, painting, graphics, computers, coffee, chocolate, and red wine. I have a Nintendo GameCube , and Xbox, and an iPod. I use Macintosh computers. I subscribe to The New Yorker, Maxim, Stuff, FHM, and Blender, all of which I read religiously. I live in a relatively spacious (by New York standards) apartment on Saint Marks Place, in the East Village. I graduated from NYU in 2001, but I don't think I learned much. I'm originally from Phoenix, Arizona, although I've been a New Yorker in training since 1999.

Animals Pressing Their Faces Against Glass

Absolutely mesmerizing.

Summer Lasagna

In an effort to eat more healthily, I have taken to cooking dinners at home. Slowly, my meals are surpassing “edible” and achieving “tasty”. Last Friday was one of my bests: a homemade lasagna with eggplant and zucchini instead of noodles (low carb and all). It was delicious.

I normally abhor McSweeny’s, but this time their obnoxiously clever, pedantic sarcasm is actually somewhat genius.

Yahoo’s Design Stencil Toolkit

Yahoo’s Design Stencil Toolkit

Nice design templates from Yahoo’s design team. What particularly impressed me was that they included a bunch of nice patterns (in addition to the standard controls), like carousels, mobile design patterns, and standard ad sizes.

Burgers in the Garden

Yesterday, Aaron and I put the finishing touches on our backyard (read: patio) and inaugerated it with some freshly grilled burgers. Yum!

Consumer Spending Infographic
Beautiful infographic from the New York Times. Although seeing this  reinforces to me how different my life is from the average — New York is truly its own country.

The Billy Letters

The Billy Letters

In 1998, a bored journalist sent letters posing as a 10-year-old boy to various public figures, and - most interestingly - serial killers. The serial killers politely responded with advice for dear Billy on staying in school.
